Lilac Ball 2010 Tops $3.1 Million

6/15/2010

The 2010 Lilac Ball raised more than $3.1 million and attracted nearly 1,100 guests to the Waldorf=Astoria Hotel on Monday, June 14. The gala was a tribute to Daniel M. Neidich, a longtime Prep Trustee and CEO of Dune Real Estate Partners, and to the nearly 150 members of Prep’s high school Class of 2010. Former New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine was on hand to congratulate both the Honoree and the high school seniors.

Neidich told assembled guests, “I am so involved in Prep for Prep … because I am confident of one thing: Prep is a program that makes a difference. Simply stated, Prep works. … Our students raise the aspirations of their siblings, extended families, and communities. And, they have profoundly changed the cultures of the public schools that nominate them and the independents schools and colleges where they enroll.”

Over 90% of this year’s Prep high school class was admitted to colleges characterized as "Most Competitive" or “Highly Competitive,” according to Barron’s 2009 Profiles of American Colleges. Columbia is their number one college of choice, with eight students attending from this year’s class.

Since 1986, the Lilac Ball has served as Prep’s keystone event. It not only honors a corporate leader with a commitment to education and young people, but also celebrates the hard work and the achievements of our high school seniors. Proceeds from the event support Prep’s mission of creating a more diverse national leadership pool by providing New York’s most promising students of color access to a superior education and life-changing opportunities.
