Three Prep Students Win Dare to Dream Travel Essay Contest

The "Dare to Dream at Prep for Prep" essay contest is a partnership between Dare to Dream NYC and Prep for Prep to provide students with unique travel opportunities.
The contest was conceived of and generously underwritten by Prep for Prep Associates Council member Roman Chiporukha, Founder & CFO of Roman & Erica, Inc. and the Dare to Dream NYC initiative.  Prep students were invited to write about a place in New York City (10th Grade), the United States (11th Grade), or in the world (12th Grade) where they would be inspired to travel.  Contest winners will receive an expenses-paid trip with one parent or guardian to the destination in their respective essays.

We are proud to announce this year’s winners:
Oamiya Haque (XXXVI/Columbia Prep), the 10th Grade winner, has a fierce desire to travel the world. She would like to begin in NYC with the United Nations, “to witness world leaders com[ing] together in order to create solutions to issues that plague many countries.” Oamiya, whose parents emigrated from Bangladesh, will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the UN from a representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations.

Kyle-Brandon Denis (XXXV/Collegiate)
, the 11th Grade winner, has “dreamt endlessly of visiting a home that combines all the facets of myself, my passion for social justice, music, blackness, language, and food; I now dare to dream that I will visit this home, New Orleans.” Kyle will travel to New Orleans to explore Creole culture, savor local cuisine, and experience the vibrant jazz and blues music scene.

Athena Casey Stenor (P9 XXVII/Exeter ’18, Yale), the 12th grade winner, described in narrative detail how “visiting Marrakech, Morocco—a wholly contemporary city everywhere imbued with the past—would be a valuable step in my growth as a conscious global citizen.” During her trip, Athena hopes to learn more about Muslim perspectives and religious tolerance.
