Prep for Prep’s Lilac Ball on June 12 was a resounding success, netting over $3 million to support educational and leadership development opportunities for New York City’s most promising students of color. The event honored philanthropist Lawrence E. Golub, CEO of Golub Capital, a nationally recognized credit asset manager with over $20 billion of capital under management. Over 1,200 guests gathered at the New York Hilton Midtown to celebrate the exceptional accomplishments of Prep’s graduating seniors.
Prep for Prep’s high school seniors are heading off to the most competitive colleges in the country this fall. An impressive one-third of the class will enroll in Ivy League schools, and 88% of students will enroll in a “Most Competitive” or “Highly Competitive” college according to Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges 2017. Congratulations to all of our students!
Lauren Williams(P9 XIII/Middlesex '04, Georgetown '08) is Prep for Prep’s first Nieman Fellow. The Nieman Foundation aims to promote and elevate the standards of journalism. Its fellowship supports 24 global journalists annually to spend a year at Harvard strengthening their knowledge and leadership skills. Lauren is currently the Features Editor at Essence magazine.
Since the first Prep alums earned their law degrees in the early 1990s, they have used their legal skills to impact communities and give back at both the local and national level. Among nearly 300 Prep alumni with JDs, four alum lawyers were recently recognized for their commitment to public service with prestigious fellowships and community service awards.
The underrepresentation African-Americans and Latinos in science and technology has been well documented. To develop future leaders in these STEM fields, Prep for Prep is partnering with leading technology companies Bloomberg, Google, and Upperline Code to increase exposure and skills of our younger high school students.
