Prep Alum is New President of Harvard Law Review

Join us in congratulating Michael Thomas (XXIV/Dalton '08, Princeton '12) JD, Harvard '19, the 132nd President of the Harvard Law Review.
The Harvard Law Review is an entirely student-run journal that publishes legal scholarship from the foremost scholars in the profession, and is often cited by judges – even at the level of the Supreme Court. Michael is the fourth black president in the prestigious legal journal’s history. (The first black man to serve in that role was Barack Obama in 1990.)

“[The] conversations that go on within and outside our pages have an effect on the law,” Thomas told The Root. “It’s important that those conversations reflect the full range of experience of the people who interact with the law and, that is to say, all of us.”

“We are incredibly proud of Michael and thrilled to see him take on this historic role,” said Aileen Hefferren, Prep for Prep’s Chief Executive. “As the first Prep alum to become president of the Harvard Law Review, he has the potential to impact the legal history of the nation. He is an inspiring role model for all students and alumni in the Prep Community.”

Born in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and raised in Canarsie, Brooklyn, Michael has a long history of proven leadership. After completing Prep for Prep’s 14-month Preparatory Component, he earned admission to The Dalton School where he served as a Peer Leader and captain of the football team. He also returned to Prep as an Advisor to mentor younger students in the program. As an undergraduate at Princeton, Michael co-founded a social entrepreneurship venture that utilizes fog harvesting technology to produce potable water. In law school, he is involved with the Harvard Law Documentary Studio and the Black Law Students Association.
