Prep for Prep’s Internship Placement Programs Expand Students’ Horizons

Prep for Prep high school and college students discover where their passions fit in the professional world through our internship placement programs and career panels.
More than 200 students have been able to explore fields such as data management, marketing, investment banking, or community development through Prep for Prep’s internship placement programs. Students are eligible to apply from the time they are a rising junior in high school until they graduate college. This summer marked a return to in-person internships, but remote and hybrid internships were also available to students, increasing access to professional development opportunities.

As part of the placement program, students have the option to attend several career seminars and information sessions with our partners and alumni outside of their internships. This year, our Associates Council and Alumni Council members partnered to create the virtual Professional Skills Workshop Series focused on three areas: communication, time management, and initiative. All high school and college students who attended received a guidebook to reference throughout the summer and encourage the application of the skills learned in their own internships.

Traci W. (XXXIX), a rising senior at the Dwight-Englewood School, was a Social Media Marketing Intern at GameFlo. “Being on social media myself, I’ve always liked the behind-the-scenes of it…. Being able to do that for a legitimate company is really cool and interesting. It really helps me figure out if I want to do this in college.”

Amherst student Adaku N. (XXXIV) is majoring in English and had the opportunity to learn more about the world of publishing as the Corporate Communications Intern for Penguin Random House. “I’ve already had publishing experience and communications work and this feels like a mixture of both. I’d never really done internal communications within publishing.” Whether a student has discovered their passion or is still figuring out where they fit, a summer internship is the perfect opportunity to expand their horizons.

We are grateful to the nearly 100 companies and organizations that opened their doors to our students this summer. Thank you, Morgan Stanley, for hosting the final reflections event for our students. We appreciate the organizations and partners who hosted career panels for our students and our alumni speakers and facilitators:
