Prep for Prep’s Annual Celebration of Alumni Leaders Recognizes the Generosity of Our Community

Prep for Prep staff, alumni, and supporters gathered at Sotheby’s on Tuesday, February 7 to recognize 2022 Alumni Prize recipient Renata G. Henry (XXII/Trinity '06, Penn '11) and celebrate the volunteerism of our alumni leaders.
This year’s Celebration of Alumni Leaders was hosted by Sotheby’s, through the generosity of Sotheby’s CEO and Prep for Prep trustee Charles F. Stewart. In addition to honoring the 2022 Alumni Prize Recipient, the event celebrated Prep for Prep alumni volunteers, including affinity group leaders, event  panelists, and facilitators

Over the past year, 187 alumni volunteers gave their time across Prep departments, including Leadership Development Opportunities, Admissions, and Academic Programs. Sixty percent of the 244 summer internships given to our high school students in 2022 were secured with the help of our alumni community. The 2022 Alumni Giving Campaign saw record numbers as donations reached nearly $1 million. These are all numbers worth celebrating!

Director of Alumni Affairs Derek Carroll began the evening with a big thank you to alumni for sharing their resources, which he described as “a testament to the community’s commitment to supporting its members, its current students, its future students, and Prep for Prep’s mission.”

2022 Alumni Prize recipient Renata G. Henry (XXII) was the star of the night. She received special recognition at the event and was presented with an engraved Tiffany bowl. Natalie Swaby Hutchinson (XIV/Chapin '98, Penn '02), a Prep for Prep trustee and 2017 Alumni Prize recipient introduced Renata. Natalie reflected on Renata’s time as Prep for Prep’s Director of Alumni Affairs, a position she held from 2019 to 2022. “It is because of Renata’s determination and love for the organization that she was able to re-engage our alumni base,” said Natalie. Before she was director, Renata was a Prep alumni council member, alumni trustee, and an avid volunteer.

As the Alumni Prize recipient, Renata represents the commitment and integrity of our more than 4,000 alumni. “There is no Prep for Prep without Prep’s alumni,” said Renata. “We are the walking embodiment of this vision. We are the walking embodiment of these core values [excellence, integrity, commitment, courage, and community].”
