Announcing Prep’s New Director of Counseling Ivan Tatis
Prep for Prep is pleased to announce Ivan Tatis as the new Director of Counseling and member of the executive leadership team. He takes the helm from Jackson Collins (XII), who transitioned to the role of Associate Executive Director of Prep for Prep earlier this year.
As the Director of Counseling, Ivan oversees the academic progress and personal development of over 700 students currently enrolled in independent day and boarding schools. He joined Prep in 2010 as a Post-Placement Counselor, and in 2015 was promoted to Senior Counselor and Financial Aid Manager. In addition to counseling responsibilities for a roster of students, he managed the annual Boarding School Retreat and helped Prep families navigate the financial aid process, applying for and securing the funds needed for their children to attend independent school.
Ivan's leadership in this area was recognized when he was tapped to moderate last fall's NAIS-SSS Financial Aid Conference Closing Panel, where independent school alumni shared how financial aid has helped change the trajectory of their lives. With his promotion to Assistant Director of Counseling in 2017, Ivan’s responsibilities expanded to include supervising the three boarding school counselors. He also trained his colleagues on how to work with families applying for aid.
"I am excited to lead a team that has such a critical role in helping Prep for Prep students manage the academic, social, and emotional journeys that shape them into leaders in their independent schools and communities," said Ivan. "I look forward to working closely with independent schools to provide our students with the tools they need to tackle all of life’s challenges."
Ivan is a graduate of Baruch’s Masters in Public Administration Program and Connecticut College, where he serves as a Director of its Alumni Association Board.
