1,409 advanced degrees. 3,115 college graduates. 5,072 total students and alumni. Prep for Prep’s 2018 Annual Report celebrates the program’s accomplishments over the past four decades and highlights individuals who reflect the core values that have led to Prep’s success.
Prep for Prep celebrated its 40th Anniversary at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture in Harlem, New York City. Founded by South Bronx school teacher Gary Simons in 1978 with 25 students and eleven independent school partners, today the program has grown to provide leadership development opportunities to over 700 students enrolled in 80 independent day and boarding schools across the Northeast. The Prep Community includes over 5,000 students and alumni.
The "Dare to Dream at Prep for Prep" essay contest is a partnership between Dare to Dream NYC and Prep for Prep to provide students with unique travel opportunities.
The front page of today’s Arts section of the New York Times featured an article about diversifying the arts field and leads with Prep Alum Akili Tommasino (XXI/Poly Prep '05, Harvard '09) MA, Harvard '12; PhD, Harvard '20, a Curatorial Assistant at the Museum of Modern Art. The article also mentioned Prep and Sotheby's Art Academy, which Akili and other members of the Prep in Arts affinity group helped found.

Prep for Prep’s Institute for Entrepreneurship students rang NASDAQ’s closing bell in Times Square. In honor of the occasion, Prep’s Chief Executive Aileen Hefferren and Associates Council Co-Chair Kevin Otero (XII) spoke at the bell ceremony.

Over 20% of the graduating class will enroll in Ivy League schools, and over 80% of students will enroll in a “Most Competitive” or “Highly Competitive” college according to Barron’s Profiles of American Colleges 2018. Prep for Prep is pleased to announce Ivan Tatis as the new Director of Counseling and member of the executive leadership team. He takes the helm from Jackson Collins (XII), who transitioned to the role of Associate Executive Director of Prep for Prep earlier this year.
To celebrate Prep for Prep’s 40th Anniversary, the organization will honor Martin Lipton of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and John L. Vogelstein of Warburg Pincus, along with the graduating high school Class of 2018, at the Lilac Ball on June 11th at Sheraton New York.
