Position Summary: The Director of the PREP 9 Preparatory Component reports to the Director of Academic Programs.
Tasks as Director of the PREP 9 Preparatory Component:
Note: It is understood that some of these tasks (as determined by the Director) will be delegated by the Director to the Dean of Students, and that it will remain the responsibility of the Director to supervise the Dean of Students in the carrying out of such tasks.
- Talent Search: when asked, interview candidates for admission to PREP 9 and consult on select Admissions Folders.
- Preparatory Component: in conjunction with the Director of Academic Programs, developing the curriculum; hiring and supervising faculty and staff, with hiring subject to the final approval of the Director of Academic Programs; working with the counseling staff for the Preparatory Component; creating, enforcing, and evaluating rules, regulations, and academic policies, and determining the status of each student in the program; scheduling classes and assigning students to specific courses and sections; assigning tutorials for students, when necessary, and submitting annual reports to the Director of Academic Programs regarding the overall status of the PREP 9 Preparatory Component, especially noting the current numbers of enrolled students. Lead, attend, and stay on campus for the two-week PREP 9 boarding school immersion-in-residence program.
- Placement: Oversee the entire PREP 9 placement process, including school presentations, school visits, and selecting the schools to which students will apply. Guide students and parents through the selection and application process, ensuring the quality and integrity of each boarding school application, and aim to place all students first in boarding schools in the PREP 9 Consortium and second in other boarding schools. Supervise the Dean of Students in managing the financial aid process and coordinate with the Director of Academic Programs throughout the process, updating and discussing placement strategy. Travel for in-person visits to Prep’s Consortium and affiliated schools to cultivate and maintain PREP 9’s placement relationships is required.
- School Relations: Maintain communication and strong relationships with sending schools; the Consortium Operations Committee and boarding schools; parents of PREP 9 students; and the schools whose facilities we require.
- Participate in all Prep for Prep staff meetings as determined by the Director of Academic Programs.
- The following positions report to the Director of the PREP 9 Preparatory Component: the Dean of Students, the PREP 9 Faculty, Advisors, and the Administrative Assistant for the PREP 9 Preparatory Component.
- Review all communication sent to families, faculty, and schools, or designate someone to ensure all materials are accurate, up to date, and reflect Prep for Prep in a positive light.
- Manage semi-monthly payroll for faculty, advisors, and the Clinical Social Worker, ensuring accuracy and timely submission.
Qualifications:
Required
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in education, social work, or psychology preferred.
- 3+ years of education leadership experience, with a demonstrable track record of managing high-performing teams.
- Exceptional interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire and engage diverse audiences.
Preferred
- Familiarity with the New England and Mid-Atlantic independent boarding school landscape.
- Experience with Salesforce or a comparable student information system.
- Valid driver’s license and travel to various schools for visits as needed.
Working Conditions:
This is a hybrid position, with three days in the office and two days remote. However, depending on the department’s needs, this role may be required to work in-person more than three days per week. Evening or weekend work may be required around student events, school cultivation activities, and major organizational events. During summer classes, this position is required to be in-person five days a week.

Compensation Range: $120K to 130K
