Summer School Nurse

Prep for Prep is looking for 3 - 4 summer school nurses to oversee the healthcare of its students. The ideal candidate has demonstrated proficiency in collecting and evaluating student healthcare forms, ensuring adherence to all local and national health regulations, treating students with injuries, sudden ailments, chronic illnesses, and disabilities, and administering medications as needed.

Compensation: $2,000 per week (prorated for partial weeks).
 
Program Details:
 
Manhattan Locations: The Collegiate School, LREI, The Nightingale Bamford School, Trinity School.

Up to 250 elementary school, middle school, and high school students (depending on the site). 

 
Program dates: 
  • June 15th – June 20th
  • June 26th – August 12th
  • August 13th – August 17th (Half days)
Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm
 

 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Provide primary healthcare to students in the case of injury or acute illness
  • Ensure a safe environment for children that complies with national and local health laws and promotes an optimal level of wellness
  • Consult with parents, teachers, and program administrators regarding student care. 
  • Proficiency in collecting and evaluating students' medical histories and other paperwork, including vaccination records.
  • Develop and implement health plans for students with specific health needs
  • Administer medication, take temperatures, bandage wounds, and carry out other healthcare procedures
  • Provide referrals for students to pediatricians and other health specialists when necessary.
  • Planned and implemented school health management protocols and procedures for routine and emergency situations.

Required Qualifications:
 
  • Qualified to practice as a Registered Nurse in New York State 
  • Current nursing license by regulatory board in the United States
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Ability to assess situations and act quickly 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Well-versed in many areas of healthcare, including mental health
  • Knowledge of national and local health regulations

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills 
  • Passion for working with students/children 
  • Compassionate and empathetic demeanor
  • Patience with students and excellent listening skills 
  • Candidates must be available for training (via Zoom) and collecting health care forms before the program start date.
