Admissions Officer

Organization Summary: Prep for Prep is an education and leadership development program that develops ethical and effective leaders who reflect our diverse society. Prep identifies New York City’s most promising students of color, prepares them for success at the nation's top independent schools throughout the Northeast, and supports their academic and personal growth through college graduation. Today, over 5,000 students and alums in the Prep for Prep Community are leaders in every field imaginable.
Position Summary: The Admissions Officer works to recruit and enroll highly qualified applicants for Prep and PREP 9. The Admissions Officer executes outreach efforts, is an admissions committee member, and represents Prep for Prep to sending schools and community-based organizations.
The Admissions Officer reports to the Associate Director of Admissions.
 
Duties and Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):
 
Admissions Team
  • Believes in and demonstrates Prep’s core values of Excellence, Integrity, Commitment, and Courage
  •  Respond to phone and email inquiries from applicant families, school nominators, and CBO partners
  • Research and contact school partners, community-based organizations, and other sources of nominations
  • Present at school fairs (public, charter, and parochial), PTA meetings, District Meetings, and CBOs in their assigned boroughs
  • Track and log potential school and community partners, meetings, and presentations in shared team Google Drive
 
Recruiting and Selecting Students
  • Collaborate with the team on recruitment strategies to increase the applicant funnel
  • Perform weekly “district visits” in the fall (September - December)  to target districts/neighborhoods in support of recruitment and outreach efforts
  •  Use borough data to report patterns and trends in applications and nominations at bi-weekly team meetings
  • Present the mission and work of the organization at First Level Information Sessions to large audiences of applicant families and interested school administrators
  • Follow-up with applied students/families to ensure the submission of documents at every level of the process
  • Receive, scan, and track all required application documents in the admissions database
  • Meet deadlines for reading files and rendering preliminary decisions on student applications
  • Identify potential Achieve PREP 9 candidates
  •  Field inquiries from applicant families and develop a good rapport
  • Participate and support enrollment events for new students to Prep and PREP 9
  • Organize materials for mailings, fairs, and events
 
Requirements/Qualifications:
 
  • Four-year degree required
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and written skills
  • Ability and comfort in developing partnerships with school partners and CBOs
  • Experience working with data and data analysis
  • Fluency in Microsoft Office and Google Apps
  • Willingness to work in a collaborative environment
  •  Strong work ethic and attention to detail
  •  2+ years of student recruitment experience preferred
  • Experience working in an Independent School is a plus
  • Fluency in Spanish is preferred
  • Experience with a database, such as Salesforce, is a plus

The Admissions Officer should be prepared to adjust to some weekend workdays, evening events, and extended hours when necessary. Typically, we work Monday through Friday, with Saturday exceptions for Information Sessions held from October through February.
 
All employees must be committed to helping Prep for Prep and the Admissions office achieve its Mission. The responsibilities listed above should be seen as a general framework; flexibility and professional growth are critical to the team's accomplishment, and roles should not be seen as fixed. Roles and responsibilities are divided and subject to change at supervisors' discretion.

 Compensation: The salary range for this position is $64,000 to $67,500.
