At this year’s PREP 9 Alumni Panel, alumni shared candid insights into their transitions to boarding school, offering students a clearer picture of what to expect. From building community in a new environment to navigating academic and social challenges, panelists highlighted the importance of resilience, self-advocacy, and making the most of every opportunity along the way.
On Saturday, March 28, 2026, Prep for Prep hosted its annual PREP 9 Alumni Panel, bringing together former program participants to share their experiences and insights with current Preparatory Component students and their families. The event continues to serve as a meaningful touchpoint in the PREP 9 journey, offering students a firsthand look at the opportunities, challenges, and growth that lie ahead as they prepare for placement at boarding schools across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
The conversation opened with reflections on the transition from public school to boarding school, a defining moment in the PREP 9 experience. Panelists spoke about the academic and social adjustments required, emphasizing that while the transition can be challenging, it is also an opportunity for profound personal growth. Adedolapo (Dola) Adebayo (P9 XXII/Choate, Williams College) JD, Columbia highlighted the importance of intentionally seeking out community, noting that finding a sense of belonging early on can make a significant difference in navigating a new and often unfamiliar environment.
Throughout the discussion, panelists returned to the theme of taking initiative, whether academically, socially, or professionally. Shantel Moses (P9 II/Deerfield, Yale) MBA, Univ. of Virginia reflected on her career journey, encouraging students to pursue their ambitions with clarity and confidence. Her remarks underscored the idea that success is not always linear, and that being proactive and open to new possibilities can lead to unexpected and rewarding paths.
Ginalysse Ingles (P9 XIV/Hotchkiss, Amherst) emphasized the value of staying connected to Prep for Prep and fully utilizing the organization’s resources long after completing the program. From mentorship to networking opportunities, she encouraged students to view Prep for Prep as an enduring support system that continues to evolve alongside them.
Panelists also spoke about the importance of resilience and adaptability, particularly in environments where students may feel out of place. They shared how PREP 9 not only prepared them academically, but also equipped them with the tools to advocate for themselves, seek support when needed, and navigate spaces where they are underrepresented.
The event concluded with words of encouragement for the current cohort, reinforcing the idea that while the path ahead may be demanding, it is also filled with opportunity. Students were reminded to remain open, stay grounded in who they are, and take full advantage of the resources and community around them.
The panel served as a powerful reminder of the transformative nature of PREP 9, not just as an academic program, but as a foundation for lifelong growth, leadership, and connection.
