Institute for Entrepreneurship Students Close the Stock Market at Nasdaq

Prep for Prep’s Institute for Entrepreneurship students rang NASDAQ’s closing bell in Times Square. In honor of the occasion, Prep’s Chief Executive Aileen Hefferren and Associates Council Co-Chair Kevin Otero (XII) spoke at the bell ceremony.
"Leaders don’t just happen," said Aileen. "Prep for Prep develops them. It’s important to me that this organization structures opportunities for children who are extraordinarily bright and willing to work hard. I really feel that your zip code shouldn’t determine where you go to college and what kind of opportunities you have."

Kevin shared recollections from his Prep journey with the students. “When I began the program nearly 30 years ago, I was a kid filled with hope about what life could bring. I sensed that Prep could change the trajectory of my life. I am thrilled to co-chair Prep's Associates Council to create more leadership opportunities for current students to expand their horizons, just as Prep did for me."

Prep students then joined Aileen and Kevin on stage to ring the closing bell. The ceremony was broadcast live to Nasdaq’s website and projected on the Nasdaq Tower in Times Square.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE FOR ENTREPRENEURSHIP
Prep for Prep’s Institute for Entrepreneurship (IFE) is an intensive and practical five-week introduction to the business world by means of a course in fundamental entrepreneurship. Prep’s high school students learn basic business and economic concepts and create their own business plans, culminating in a competition for seed money to invest in their businesses. Students are paired with mentors from Google NYC who provide feedback ideas and pitches, and instructors from Upperline Code who provide coding instruction and technical assistance. Past winners have gone on to serve vegan deserts at a 1,200 person black tie event, sell a startup to a major food delivery online platform, and start a multimillion dollar real estate company.
