From Prep for Prep Student to CEO: Beginning This Next Chapter Together
Prep for Prep's new CEO reflects on her first week leading the organization that has been instrumental in her academic, professional, and personal growth.
Last week–my first as Prep for Prep’s CEO–I experienced moments that were both deeply personal and profoundly meaningful, from receiving flowers from a mentor to speaking to more than a hundred of our high schoolers. As the week ended, I addressed our newest Prep for Prep and PREP 9 graduates at their commencement ceremonies, 41 years after celebrating my own. I chose to begin my tenure during the week of commencement intentionally; I wanted this new chapter in my Prep Journey to begin right alongside theirs.
As a Prep for Prep alumna, stepping into this role feels both humbling and inspiring. Prep for Prep has shaped my life in ways I could never have imagined. It opened doors, challenged me to be excellent, built confidence, and gave me a community that has carried me through every stage of my journey. To return now as the first alumna to lead this incredible organization is an honor beyond words.
When people ask why I chose to return to Prep for Prep at this moment in my career, my answer is simple: our students. In a world filled with uncertainty and challenge, they give me hope. They are brilliant, resilient, and determined to make a difference–not only for themselves and their families, but also for their communities, our country, and our world.
For nearly five decades, Prep alumni have had an undeniable impact: raising strong families, leading organizations, building businesses, tackling social challenges, and creating opportunities for others. I clearly see that same extraordinary promise in our current students. As I addressed more than 200 Prep students last week, I saw a wonderful future–one we can achieve if we all live Prep’s core value of commitment. If we provide the preparation, guidance, and community of support that will allow these young leaders to thrive, they will build a world we aspire to see.
If you are receiving this message then please know that just as I believe in these students, I also believe that this work is only possible because of you. Leaders don’t just happen–the generosity of donors (time, talent and funds), the dedication of partner schools, the commitment of every alum and staff member, and the faith you place in our students sustain this mission. Together, we will achieve more than anyone has imagined.
Thank you for being a part of this journey. Your support makes all the difference. I’m excited about what’s ahead. I look forward to sharing more of my vision for Prep for Prep this Fall and to working with you as we build on Prep’s extraordinary legacy and write its next chapter.
