The successful candidate will be a dedicated, skilled learning specialist with a Master’s degree in Special education, Learning Disabilities, School Psychology, or a related field of study, have demonstrated successful teaching experience, and be able to work effectively with Middle School students, families, and faculty. In addition, the School seeks candidates who possess intellectual curiosity, a commitment to ongoing professional development, an openness to others’ ideas, an eagerness to extend oneself for others, and a sense of humor.

Responsibilities as Middle School Learning Specialist include:
  • Serve as an integral member of the Learning Support Team under the supervision of the Learning Support Department Head and the Middle School Principal;
  • Meet routinely with the Learning Support Department Head and other learning specialists within the division and across divisions to share information about students, to set goals for the division and department, and to engage in professional development;
  • Provide reading support and teach specific writing strategies to students;
  • Provide resources, strategies, and teaching techniques for faculty to support students with varying learning needs;
  • Develop, implement, and monitor a school-based learning plan with a profile that includes instructional learning goals and accommodations for eligible students;
  • Make presentations to families and faculty highlighting the support of the Learning Center; and
  • Support the coordination of school-based informal and standardized tests for students, including those eligible for accommodations.
