The Pinkerton Foundation is looking for a thoughtful and energetic individual to join our team. As the first point of contact with callers and visitors, the successful candidate will greet outsiders with a courteous, cordial and welcoming attitude. Internally, he or she will work with the office manager and the program staff to ensure an efficient and professional workplace environment. A demonstrated interest in serving disadvantaged young people and the ability to be a cooperative and congenial team player are essential. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
The Pinkerton Foundation is an independent grantmaking organization. We support community-based programs for children, youth and families in economically disadvantaged areas in New York City and focus on providing opportunities for academic development, career readiness and cultural enrichment. We also support a number of programs that offer a way forward for young people after an encounter with the criminal justice system or years in foster care.
Responsibilities:
Answer telephone, screen and direct calls, sort mail
Greet visitors
Provide general administrative and clerical support
Coordinate meetings and catering
Assist program officers on occasional ad hoc projects
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures
Knowledge of computers, office software and social media
Ability to manage a small switchboard/phone
Strong verbal and written communication skills
A commitment to customer service
