Paperless Post: Data Engineer

We're seeking an experienced data engineer to build, scale, and maintain the core of our data pipeline and systems. Working closely with in-house data scientists, you’ll use statistical modeling and machine learning to run experiments and analyze data to help us uncover fundamental insights about our business. By asking the right questions, digging deep into the answers, and building solid systems that addresses them, you’ll play a vital role in driving our business forward.
 
What you’ll do here
  • Design, build, and maintain production code that automates offline batch-processing and online machine-learning services.
  • Build reports and tools using Python and D3 to get people the data they need.
  • Analyze data and generate important business insights with our in-house data scientists and analysts.
  • Working closely with our Data Lead, map models into reliable and production-ready systems.
  • Deploy and monitor production systems.
What you bring to the table
The ideal candidate will have a good blend of programming, analysis, and communication skills. We're not expecting you to have everything on this list, but here are some plusses:
  • Strong programming skills in SQL, Ruby, JavaScript, or Python.
  • Experience working with medium to large data sets.
  • Experience with at least two backend languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go).
  • Experience with Hadoop/MapReduce.
  • Knowledge of systems integration using HTTP and queues to processing high-throughput streams of near real-time data.
  • Experience building interactive visualizations in d3.
