The inaugural Prep for Prep/Sotheby’s Art Academy enabled 15 high school sophomores to explore the history, business, and professions of the visual arts field.
Conceived by the Prep in Arts alumni affinity group and underwritten by Sotheby’s, the four-week course featured academic and professional components to help Prep students deepen their knowledge and understanding of the art world through direct engagement with every aspect of the visual arts, academic inquiry, and art creation. The exposure to potential art careers also prepares them for future internships in the field.
“Thanks to the generosity and vision of Sotheby’s, Prep for Prep is taking a giant leap forward in exposing its students to the transformative power of the arts and all that they have to offer personally and professionally. We could not have a better partner than Sotheby's guiding them on this journey of exploration," said Aileen Hefferren, Chief Executive of Prep for Prep.
Field trips included tours of The Frick Collection, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a Sotheby’s mock auction. They met with working artists, art critics, and art conservators. The program culminated in capstone projects that included print production, painting, and performance art.
