Overview and Responsibilities


Distribution & Business Development (DBD) is the department responsible for negotiating distribution agreements, maximizing revenue and marketing opportunities from traditional (Comcast, Dish, Verizon FiOS, etc.), digital (Amazon, Hulu, etc.) and new media distribution channels while ensuring that fans can discover and engage with Viacom content on every available device and platform.
 
This position is part of the RISE DBD Rotation Program where participants rotate across Coordinator-level positions within the DBD division: Sales and Business Development, Marketing, Strategy and Operations. This 2-year rotation program is designed to provide you with the opportunity to broaden your skills across multiple disciplines, gain a more holistic understanding of the operations of multiple functions and prepare you for future advancement.

Specific responsibilites within each rotation

Sales and Business Development:
  • Liaise and work closely with internal Marketing, Strategy, Legal and Finance teams and Viacom network brands to achieve sales and distribution goals for linear television and digital distribution models, implement contractual commitments and marketing and promotional strategies
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of sales presentations, distribution plans, compliance documents, contact lists and distribution partner reporting
  • Independently manage small cable affiliate accounts, including establishing relationships with key decision makers and selling new products from Viacom
Marketing:
  • Support the Manager and/or Director of Marketing to create, manage, and execute integrated marketing promotions for distribution partners that support distributor goals and deliver significant value for Viacom
  • Coordinate all aspects of marketing campaigns with Sales and Business Development, network contacts, distribution partners and vendors as well as creating and maintaining marketing materials
  • Maintain ongoing dialogue and attend meetings with network contacts to gather and disseminate information to help inform priorities, marketing plans and drive initiatives with distribution partners
Strategy:
  • Support the Strategy team on business development efforts, including industry and competitive research, content windowing strategy, deal execution, and financial modeling
  • Manage knowledge database, including current news and trends relevant to our business
  • Develop insights and talking points for strategy decks; Opportunities to present to senior leaders; Use advanced Excel techniques to analyze data and communicate insights
  • Work on forward-looking projects tackling major industry shifts
Operations:
  • Perform signal authorizations & deauthorizations; Manage a signal transporter and billing co-op; Assist with digital/SVOD deliveries
  • Support troubleshooting, enhancements and bug-fixes for internal applications
  • Produce linear signal distribution reports
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree with up to 1 year of professional experience (internship experience accepted)
  • Proper work authorization to be employed within the United States for the full length of the program (2 years)

  • Interest in and passion for media and technology; new emerging platforms
  • Organized, detail-oriented, ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills, outstanding written and oral communications skills as required to interface across multiple levels and groups
  • Proactive self-starter and team player, ability to learn quickly, be flexible and adapt to changing industry and organizational landscape
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel; Photoshop a bonus
